“You gotta live life a little bit jump a few fences, ding-dong ditch a few houses, get the cops called on you once or twice, don’t get arrested. Life’s all about adventure. You know you don’t wanna sit inside all day. You wanna go out there. Be a kid.”
– Baylen Levine.
Dear readers, that is my favourite quote, and I’ll explain to you why. To me, Baylen Levine’s quote explains the carefree spirit when coming of age. Youth is about embracing freedom, taking risks, and discovering who you are through
experience. “You gotta live life a little bit, jump a few fences, ding-dong ditch a few houses…” That shows that the idea of growing up isn’t just about following rules, it’s about making mistakes, doing bad decisions and figuring out a way to deal with them, and after that, learning from them. Coming of age means stepping outside your comfort zone, accepting that things are not perfect, and having fun with the journey, even when things go wrong. The quote captures the rebellious and thrill-seeking personality of adolescence, where you’re figuring out what matters to you and who you want to become.
